Netball New Zealand Coronavirus (COVID-19) Community Netball Advisory

Netball New Zealand (NNZ) and the five netball Zones have met to discuss the latest developments and government announcements in respect of the national response to Covid-19.

NNZ’s advisory to all netball centres and competition organisers affiliated to Netball New Zealand is as follows.

All netball competitions are to be postponed until Saturday 2 May 2020 at the earliest.

All community events, competitions, programmes, tournaments, workshops and player development programmes planned to be conducted by any entity affiliated to Netball New Zealand, or that are currently in progress are to be postponed until Saturday 2 May at the earliest.

Umpires, officials, players and committees meeting to prepare for a May start are encouraged to conduct essential meetings online wherever practicable. Where this is not practicable, all current Ministry of Health recommendations around safe practises should be adhered to. Ministry of Health Link

Recognising the need for teams to prepare for a competition starting from 2 May at the earliest, clubs and schools in the process of trialling, naming teams and commencing trainings are to postpone until four weeks before the start of their competition or the first week in April at the earliest.  Given the changing environment this position may change in coming weeks.

Centres and Zones yet to conduct their AGMs are encouraged to conduct their meetings online wherever practicable.

Centres that hire their venues out should check their risk management plans and liabilities as a Hirer.

This advisory is effective immediately.

Netball New Zealand and the Zones are liaising with government officials at national and regional levels in both health and sport constantly, monitoring all developments and reviewing the above advisory fluidly and in response to the changing environment.

Your Zone and NNZ are committed to supporting the actions necessary for Centres to action this advisory and each Zone will notify their Centres today who the direct contact person is for any queries, advice or support.

In the meantime, we appreciate how great the netball whānau   are at supporting each other, this is a difficult time for all, and we appreciate your understanding

We will do our utmost to get everyone back on court as soon as it is safe to do so.

Thank you for your patience.
